The plan was always
for the game of Cloudships to have a ground component as well as a "flying
ship" one. To that end, troops are being painted and scenery being prepared.
This item is a fortified Martian villa, built from pink, high density foam and
plastic card (some of it the excellent embossed plastic sheet from Wills). This
fort WONT be at Salute Zero Six but
is planned for a game at Salute Zero Seven.
One piece was fabricated and to save the effort this item was
cast a few times to save repeating work (many thanks Old
Crow) , which helped a bit though almost all of the sections have had some
work done to them.. The entrance tunnel is made from timber on account of us
wanting to dock one of our Cloudships with it for gaming purposes
(the redundant locating hole being hidden under a hatch/trapdoor on the fort
model). All trapdoors and other doors are injection moulded styrene from Games
Workshop (from an old "Mighty Fortress" set).
Inspiration for this part of the project came from computer renderings on this excellent 1889 website and is copyright (see picture at the end).
Below are some of the build shots of the fort in an incomplete form showing the resin, timber and foam construction, plus the rendering mentioned above..
