Modelling The Game
2006
Two companies recently released both Stingray models and a Fireball XL5 both of which could be successfully used. They are all in different (but quite useful) scales (of course). The companies manufacturing this material are Product Enterprises (large die-casts) and Konami (smaller injection models that require a very small amount of assembly). The latter are only available via things like eBay. Sizes The Product Enterprises people make a Stingray in 1/110th scale (not far off of 15mm scale for figures) and 235mm long. It's a superb piece of die-cast with figures inside the bridge and landing skis that can be extended underneath the craft. The Konami item is just under 1/300th at about 1/272nd and - at 95mm - is similar in size to the Matchbox item although much better detailed. There is an excellent Terrorfish in a commensurate size. All come with stands. The Product Enterprises Fireball XL5 is 255mm long and made from heavy die-cast. The detachable Fireball Junior (which is held on by some very strong magnets) has a detailed crew inside the cockpit and is just (annoyingly) over 1/300th in size (nearer 1/350th, in fact). The Konami XL5 is around 1/750th at about 125mm long - so it's much closer in scale to the original white metal Stingray models I own. It also has a detachable 'Junior' which is a push fit. Painted detail on all of these models is excellent. See the photos below
for examples.
